The Abyss (Final Project) - Environment Illustration

Final Project for one of my illustration diploma courses. I wanted to show the floating island better, but the chosen angle was more aesthetically pleasing, so the Abyss theme is a bit lost. Overall, I had a lot of fun developing and refining this project! The Blender (creating the models and sculpting) part of the project was the most challenging, but it was also super fun to add the small details and watch it all come together with procedural nodes. Big thanks to the lecturers, as well as the Blender youtube videos who helped me along the way~

Exterior illustration of the floating islands on which these abandoned ruins still reside. An adventurer and his bird companion are maybe the first to venture onto this abandoned land. The blue bird is heavily inspired by Meteion from FFXIV!

Interior illustration of the main building seen in the previous piece. There is a broken-in part of the ceiling that casts light on the statue in the room. The glowing flowers are inspired by Elpis flowers from FFXIV and they used to look almost the same.

Character design Layout. I wanted to achieve an Akihiko Yoshida vibe with the style and colors - but I still have a long way to go before I can master that style.

Early exploration sketches for this project. I was still feeling out what kind of vibe or time period I wanted for the building.
